The books are great but no collector items March 10, 2010 M. Wilson Ordered this set after seeing the movie. We thought it was a good way to get all 5 books for a reasonable price. The books were in perfect condition, however the box was slightly damaged and the "hidden compartment" had nothing in it. It was pretty obvious that someone had opened the box, removed the collectors items and replaced the books so no one would notice. I've ordered a replacement and we'll see if that one includes ALL the items.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Hardcover - Boxed set of 5 March 8, 2010 Carol A. Nash (Ogden, UT USA) This was a great Birthday gift my 10 year old grandson that needed to do a book report and he selected Lightning Thief. He was so surprised to get the complete set and he just loves it. He especially liked the box and surprises that came with it.
Better than I expected March 8, 2010 Joshua Scott (Texas) When I read some of the other reviews for this product, I was worried that it might be damaged when it arrived. Some reviews stated that the collectors box housing the books was torn or smashed at the corners, which really worried me about ordering it online. After I did my research and found out it cost a lot more at local book stores, I decided to order it. When I recieved the product, I was eager to open it and see how it looked. Not only were the books in perfect condition, but the collectors box looked good as new. I would recommend this box set to anyone who enjoys really good fantasy books. You will not be disappointed.

I bought this for my son for Christmas this year after he read the first book in school. He LOVED it! He finished all 5 books in about a month adn takled about them so much I read them all too! Very good series and I hope that it continues in sharing the adventures of Percy, Tyson, Grover, Annabeth and all their demigod friends!!
Super fun books for those who like Greek myths - ignore the treasure chest gimmick February 26, 2010 Amazon frequent shopper 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love Harry Potter books, especially the 1st 4. I love Greek myths.
I tried Lightning Thief when Scholastic was advertising it to my son's school. I'm always on the look out for fun books for him to read. I borrowed it from the library and got hooked myself!
The books are non-stop, fast paced page turners, no dragging or boring sections. Action or romp packed chapters. Tongue in cheek humor. Fun to remember beloved Greek myths imagined in modern settings. Though Percy is short for Perseus, he has adventures like Hercules and Odysseus, etc. Part of the fun is anticipating how he will solve his never ending problems based on what you remember from classic myths. The current first movie of the series loses much of the humorous narration of the book (Percy's view). These stories are fun and funny to read.
I actually prefer this series to Harry Potter for my own child to read because though Percy does get older and starts acting like an older teenager and there are battles and war at the end, it is not dark or eerie, gory or depressing as the last books in Harry Potter. I would have no worry about my 10 year old reading this and wondering if it is appropriate for his age.
Forget the treasure box. Cardboard quality is little more than a Happy meal. Secret compartment is a folded cutout cardboard insert. Tried to get an intact box twice from Amazon. Always torn up. I decided to keep the 2nd one after Amazon decided to give a 20% discount for me keeping a damaged product. Inside the treasure box is your usual boxed set type box - just plain gold without any markings except Disney Hyperion label in small print. Hardcover books x5 in excellent condition inside a regular plain box - great price overall for a series I really enjoy.
