5 out of 5 stars The book that can change an entire school!   August 9, 2010
Lesa Schumacher
Leave it to a teacher to share a story about a children's book that changed her own children! My oldest and dearest friend shared the title of this book as a must have in my own classroom. I read it to my class and they passed the message onto other kids in our school. My class loved the message so much they had me read it to the Police Officer that visits the school! I shared the book with the classes across the hall, the counselor, the PTA, and parents! This book has a way of kindly letting whomever it is read to, that you should try to be a "filler" not a "dipper". The message of the book is clear and uses a visual that makes it understandable for children of multiple ages. It is the perfect gift to give a teacher, counselor, or friend that could use a little help with their own child!

5 out of 5 stars Happiness, Diversity and Kindness   July 7, 2010
Vicki M. Krueger (Boone, North Carolina United States)
This book is a MUST within the first week of school. We read this book to our Kindergarten, First and Second grade students, we then split up the students and had an activity for students to brainstorm how to be BUCKET FILLERS for either THE EARTH, THEIR FAMILY, AT SCHOOL or IN THE COMMUNITY. The final products were posted in classrooms. As a kindergarten teacher, this book was taken out and read to any class that had a problem with bullying or with our Book Buddies so we'd all be on the same page and know what it is to be a BUCKET FILLER and not a BUCKET DIPPER. IT IS A MUST HAVE BOOK for ANY AGE!

5 out of 5 stars Filling a bucket   July 6, 2010
nyien chan (hong kong)
I recently got a copy of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is not only importantant reading for children, but for adults as well. What could be a greater challenge than to fill your bucket with good thoughts and good deeds. We all should be doing that.

The illustrations are also beautiful and attractive. This is one book all church and school libraries should include. It is not just fun reading, but also very instructive in how to make our world a better place.

5 out of 5 stars Great even for the "big kids"   June 7, 2010

I love this book. I have read it with my older students (4th/5th graders so roughly 10-12 years old) and they still ask me if they can borrow it to read during reading time. The message is simple and that's what I think appeals to these children. All too often in today's world, children are NOT taught about respect at home and bullying is out of control in many schools. This book has helped my students to make a connection to their feelings with the bucket illustrations. They often will correct each other now by saying "uh oh, are you being a filler or a dipper?" This book is fabulous.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Book for Kindergarteners   April 15, 2010
N. Munro (Maryland)
This book teaches young children how their actions affect others. When their actions are loving, they fill someone's bucket. When their actions are not, they dump someone's bucket. In our house, we ask "are you being a bucket filler or a bucket dumper?" Children then immediately realize the consequences of their actions on others. This is a must have book.
