Product Description
The highly anticipated third book in the critically acclaimed and bestselling series takes the art of being wimpy to a whole new level. Let’s face it: Greg Heffley will never change his wimpy ways. Somebody just needs to explain that to Greg’s father. You see, Frank Heffley actually thinks he can get his son to toughen up, and he enlists Greg in organized sports and other manly” endeavors. Of course, Greg is able to easily sidestep his father’s efforts to change him. But when Greg’s dad threatens to send him to military academy, Greg realizes he has to shape up . . . or get shipped out. Greg and his family and friends, who make the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books a must-read for middle school readers, are back and at their best in this hilarious new installment of the series, which is sure to please current fans while attracting new ones. Publishers Weekly-1/19/2009: The third book in this genre-busting series is certain to enlarge Kinney’s presence on the bestseller lists, where the previous titles have taken up residence for the past two years. Kinney’s spot-on humor and winning formula of deadpan text set against cartoons are back in full force. This time, Greg starts off on New Year’s Day (he resolves to help other people improve,” telling his mother, I think you should work on chewing your potato chips more quietly”) and ends with summer vacation. As he fends off his father’s attempts to make him more of a man (the threat of military school looms), Greg’s hapless adventures include handing out anonymous valentines expressing his true feelings (Dear James, You smell”), attempting to impress his classmate Holly and single-handedly wrecking his soccer team’s perfect season. Kinney allows himself some insider humor as well, with Greg noting the racket” children’s book authors have going. All you have to do is make up a character with a snappy name, and then make sure the character learns a lesson at the end of the book.” Greg, self-centered as ever, may be the exception proving that rule. Ages 8-12. (Jan.)

Great July 28, 2010 auntie_rachel84 Took full amount of time given to recieve order, however it arrived in perfect condition, great price would recomend this seller!
A favorite book series! July 17, 2010 J. Mendoza (ABQ, NM) I just want to say that my 9 yr old despises reading, we couldn't get him to enjoy it for anything. We tried many different books and a variety of topics, no luck. One day at his school library, he brought home "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and before we knew it he was reading the book every chance he had and we didn't have to nag him to do so, EUREKA!! His teachers advised that the book was too advanced for his level, but he would sit down and read to me every night without me suggesting it. He sounded out words and questioned the meaning of certain vocabulary he didn't recognize. He explained that he enjoyed the book because he could relate to Greg, the main character in the book and he said is was funny, always making him laugh because of Greg's sense of humor (much like my son's, might I add). Soon after I found all the books, right here on Amazon for very inexpensive and I knew it was money well spent. My son loves the books and best of all, ENJOYS reading now, it has helped his spelling and reading scores, he has finished every book 3x over and loves the "Do it Yourself" book that is a fun-ish journal type book they can fill in on their own. I would recommend this for ages 9 and up, my 12 yr old nephew also has the books and loves them as well! Just hope that the author continues to write the books as fast as kiddos can read them!
My son loves this series! July 7, 2010 TK My 9 year old son loves to read but he isn't to hip on reading fiction focusing instead on factual reading, however he loves this series! He has read each book multiple times and I think that is because he really relates to the main character. He loves to draw comparisions about what he read to his real life situations and share them with me. I am grateful to have found a fiction series he can enjoy!

The most requested books in the library May 22, 2010 Bookchick (Kentucky) As a school librarian, I serve a young population of 5- to 8-year-olds. If I had a dime for every time I am asked (daily!), "Do you have any of those Wimpy Kid books?", I'd be rich. The "Wimpy Kid" books are, by far, the most requested books in our library! I have multiple copies of each, and there is a waiting list for all of them, several kids deep. At first I thought they wanted them because their older siblings were reading them, and they just sometimes like the feel of a big fat chapter book (not that these are that big or fat), but then after they would tell me about their favorite parts, I knew they were reading them themselves. Kudos to Jeff Kinney--how rare to write a book that appeals just as much to a middle-schooler as it does to a YOUNG elementary-age child (and whose content is not too sophisticated or inappropriate for the younger set)!
