I Fell for Romeo October 28, 2008 Tate Robinson (Utah) I fell in love with this book, in love with the characters, and in love with the story. Jennifer Laurens has an unusual way of drawing you in and keeping you until the very end.
John is the boy the has everything. Jennifer's his next store neighbor ex best friend who has never been kissed. They are both cast as Romeo and Juliet in the School play.
They soon start falling for each other. And you find yourself laughing, rooting for, and really feeling for the characters. If you love great characters, you'll love Jennifer Laurens. And you'll fall for Romeo too.
Romeo was pretty hot:] August 29, 2008 A Member This is the of Jenn Vien and John Michaels. Best friends when they were preteens. Grew apart as they got older. John wants to be friends with Jenn. Jenn doesn't trust John. There are many obstacles before these two get together, but in the end true love conquers all.
Wonderfull book, beautiful in its simplistic content July 3, 2008 Janet Bracero (berwyn, illinois United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is one of the best Young Adult books I've read. I loved John and Jen's modern Pride and Prejudice reference. John and Jen are neighbors. They where childhood friends. However, as they grew older they drifted apart. Jon became the school hottie and Jen the girl next door. Pretty smart, but unsure, she suffered unrequited feelings for Jon. These feelings begin to culminate when John and Jen become the lead charcters for Romeo and Juliet. John sees the role as an opportunity to get closer to Jen. However, his attempts to get closer to Jennifer backfires. Jen becomes resentful and unhappy about her growing feelings for John. Neither is willing to express those feeling because they fear rejection. In the end John and Jen put aside their pride and express those feelings. Loved the book it is entertaining and sweet. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a light love story.
A good, fun, lighthearted read! June 19, 2008 Jessica Fortuna (Mentor, Ohio United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
When the author posted a bulletin on Myspace saying the first so many people with the name Jennifer would get a free copy of this book, I playfully sent one saying my parents almost gave me that name and in turn, I was offered one of the free books.
I may not be a teenager, but it hardly mattered with this book. I found it engaging and my employees at work can back that up. I don't think I put it down until I finished it. I thought bringing in another of my favorite authors, Jane Austen, was brilliant and Pride and Prejeduce fit in perfectly with the turmoil of emotions from the two main characters.
I loved this book. If anyone is looking for something fun to read on the beach this summer, this is your book!
Enjoyable story, poor editing June 12, 2008 A Reader (CA) This novel follows John and Jennifer's estranged friendship, each character now hoping for something more with the other, during a school production of Romeo and Juliet in which they play the leads. Both are unable to admit their feelings for the other because of their pride and complicated history. The tension between the characters is believable and interesting, and I particularly like how both John and Jennifer's views are expressed so that the reader understands how each of them feel the way they do.
That said, there are a few things that have distracted from the story content wise. One is that I came across the scene in which they are discussing Pride and Prejudice in English class and are debating the issue of "Kitty running away." As far as I know, Kitty never runs away, although Lydia does elope with Wickham.
Also, I read at one point that Katie was John's little sister, and Amber was Jennifer's, but later, Katie is referred to as Jennifer's sister. I am a little confused on this point.
In addition, the frequent and often rather obvious typos (and I don't mind a few, because I know how difficult it is to expunge them from a text) distracted my attention from the story.
All and all I enjoyed the novel, and have no problem with the story itself. (Although I wished the ending could be a little more fleshed out). I just wish someone had given the text the editing job it deserves!
