It must be my fault. I love these books, having gotten all the sets as gifts when my twins were 2. They're now 5, and they recognize letters, phonics, sounds and rhymes. We read to them every night, and they are voracious about books. But when I try to get through these, it's a buzz kill for them. There are other books for beginning readers that they will tolerate, especially those that take one book of stories and focus on specific phonic sounds - like the "a" sound -- and every other word in a pArAgrAph will hAve thAt Alpha crAfted into the story - ugh. So, I've put these on a shelf and will take them out again in a few months and try again. As I've learned, most things in our house are like mushrooms ... 'mommy, I don't like them ... yet' I've been repeatedly surprised as they miraculously "discover" things now that they declared useless 6 months ago.

My son had never been so excited to get the next two levels of Bob Books after he bought and read level 1.
He loves to read these and they are a great learning tool for our 4 year old.
